Omschrijving
A dish of dark-grey stoneware with white-grey and a purple burn exposed on the carved foot. The rim is everted and upturned. The interior base has five spurmarks. The decoration is brushed in greyish black over off-white slip under a transparent glaze. A large fish, scales formed by dots and enclosed by parallel bands, is shown in the centre. Four oval shapes stem from the center into the sides. Two of these are only in outline, with a human figure supine on the interior. The other two are filled with colour. The shapes are surrounded by irregular dashes and parallel bands at the rim. The painting is relatively crude, executed swiftly and carelessly. It is of a special interest however, since it suggests the Hindu theme of Visnu sleeping in a pool of lotus. No other such dish has been recorded. It is probably relatively late.
